An obvious improvement would be to use a summarization software like summly and public domain images for reposting. There is also an offer for a demo at get.trendolizer.com. It looks like it is powering leadstories.com a hoax debunking site. There was an EU funded similar project for journalists many many years ago that was focusing mostly on RSS feeds like Google Reader.
